Why does this page exist?
I never liked the look of a Motorcycle fairing because I thought it took too much away from the shape and style of the motorcycle. This was primarily because I came from a VTX-1300R and suddenly had to look for another bike.
What sealed the Street Glide for me was the fairing looked simple and clean-looking. I ended up selecting the bike for another reason... the stock Harman Kardon Radio on Touring Models (mine being a 2012 FLHX) could play MP3 Music CDs. Though I now own some smaller hand-me-up iPod devices, I did not want to mount them to my bike or handlebars, as it takes away form the clean look (IMHO). So I decided to burn a data CD and it works just fine.
As I started to acquire some more CDs, and as I had a little bit more free time to do this (and yes - the original MP3 disc I had with about 115 songs on it was getting too predictable even in random shuffle order) I got some software to make my music discs. Then I wanted a change to how I did this several years ago.
In the past I had an MP3 disc that had no ID3 tags, and each song's file name used a common format... "ARTIST - TITLE.MP3" for every file. The HK heads-up display would show me the file name on the top and bottom lines after it showed the track number that corresponded with the file name on the disc. The second line would disappear and show me the time of day while the file name display would be on the top for the song's duration. I forgot about this when I made my next disc using a different laptop and updated software.
The display was ugly... so I went on a manhunt to figure out how to clean up my display. I finally got my desired results thanks to a few clever folks, but I was using resources that (I guessed) most people would not have. So, I ended up doing more work on a limit set of Windows-only resources to get what I need out of this process.
I now can load my music on an MP3 data disc, put it in my HK/HD Radio and it properly displays* the title and artist without junk. This page has menu-driven links that will show you what you all the steps to do what I did and provide most of the prerequisites, inclusive of Operating System environment, file naming conventions, HK software / firmware versions, free tag / MP3 management software and procedures to follow.
*For what I wanted to do - I purposely altered some settings so that the TITLE displays on the first line and ARTIST displays on the second line of the HK-HUD. Follow the sub-links above for the information
